WBSC Extraordinary Congress unanimously approves Statutes

The WBSC Extra Ordinary Congress  unanimously approved the new Statutes and the baseball and softball Division Codes.

“It’s a great day,” said President Riccardo Fraccari. “The day we really become a united Federation, proud world governing body of a global sport. Starting Monday, we all need to head to the same direction. And we want to interact with you, member countries. We want you to live your Federation day by day”.

The result was sealed by 162 votes, expressed by 125 Federations, representing 94 countries.
The Congress also approved new memberships of Tanzania (baseball and softball), Botswana baseball, Congo (baseball and softball). Ghana and Mongolia softball merged with the baseball Federation and Nepal baseball merged with the softball Federation. St Marteen (baseball and softball) became a provisional member.

The Congress had been opened by a speech by Brigadier George Tihalerwa, Senior Private Secretary to the President of the Republic of Botswana Ian Khama, introduced by Tirelo Mukokomani, President of Botswana Softball Association.
“This Congress comes at the right time, since this year has been of unprecedented success in sport for Botswana” said Tihalerva “We are a small country, but softball is very important here. I could say that softball is Botswana is like soccer in Brasil. And the talent is there, since our National Team finished eigth in the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup”.

Other dignitaries of the host country attending the Congress were Lincon Goitsemany (representative of the Ministry of Youth Empowerement Sport Culture Development), Colonel Botsang Tshenyego (President of Botswana Olympic Commitee), Tuelo Serufho (CEO Of Botswana Olympic Committee), Professor Martin Mokgwahti (Botswana National Sport Commission) and the Board Members of the Botswana Sport Commission.

Before the voting, Vice President Willi Kaltschmitt read a letter addressed to President Fraccari by IOC President Thomas Bach: “We are delighted to have your sport and your athletes back on the Olympic stage (…) I see the commitment of President Fraccari to develop and promote the sport around the world (…) I look forward to learn more about the Statutes and amendments that will be discussed during the upcoming days”.

WBSC Associate Members also attended the Congress: CPBL (Chinese Professional Baseball League), KBO (Korea Baseball Organization), NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball), Pony League and USSSA (United States Specialty Sports Association).

No. 52 Sri Lanka shocks No. 24 Pakistan to win West Asia Baseball Cup for first time ever

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are now qualified to join BFA Championship

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan March 1, 2017 – The world No. 52 Sri Lanka Men’s National Baseball Team surprised No. 24 Pakistan, 4-2, to win the West Asia Baseball Cup for the first time ever and advance to the BFA Asia Baseball Championship 2017. Played at the Pakistan Sports Complex, the championship game was tied 2-2 in the 8th inning before Sri Lanka scored the decisive runs.

“The tournament was a tough one for us, but we’ve been dreaming of this moment,” Sri Lanka captain Akalanka Ranasinghe told Pakistan major media outlet The Express Tribune. Pakistan had entered the international competition having dominated the last four West Asia Cups.

Sri Lanka went a perfect 3-0 in Islamabad, beating No. 54 Iran (22-0) in the opening round and No. 72 Nepal (11-0) in the semi-finals. In the battle for third-best in West Asia, Iran defeated Nepal, 10-6. No. 61 India was not able participate as a result of their visas not having been authorised.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan are now qualified to participate in the 28th Asian Championship in New Taipei City in Late September. East Asia, represented by Hong Kong and Philippines, will take on Japan, Korea, Chinese Taipei and China jointly with two West Asian nations at the 8-team tournament of Baseball Federation of Asia.

West Asia Baseball Cup XIII set to open in Islamabad, Pakistan

India, Iran, Iraq, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will compete for the West Asia baseball title.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The 13th edition of the West Asia Baseball Cup is set to take place at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad from 25 February to 1 March.  Six countries will compete for the biggest baseball prize in West Asia.

World No. 24 Pakistan, No. 67 Iraq and No. 72 Nepal will start the tournament in Group A, while No. 52 Sri Lanka, No. 54 Iran, No. 61 India will be in Group B.  The top two nations from each group will advance to the semi-finals.  Host Pakistan will enter the tournament as the reigning champions of West Asia.

The winner will advance to the BFA Asia Baseball Championship 2017 and get a boost in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings.

Government Backs Baseball

Pakistan’s federal government has backed the event as a recent policy to promote the sport of baseball.

“The federal government has set up [Pakistan Baseball’s] national training camp in Islamabad,” said Pakistan Federation Baseball President Khawar Shah.  The PFB leader also said the government will oversee security, accommodations and meal service for all National Team delegations.

Khawar also disclosed that federal support to operate a league open to both elite domestic and foreign players was also a possibility — positive news for the growth and development of baseball in West Asia.

The XIII West Asia Baseball Cup is being hosted by the Pakistan Federation Baseball in conjunction with the Baseball Federation of Asia – the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s baseball arm across the continent.

National Junior U-15 Baseball Tournament

NBSA has successfully organized National Junior U-15 Baseball Tournament-2016 from 17-18 Nov,2016.
8 Boys Team and 6 Girls Team participated in the tournament with some exciting matches and performances.

Participating Boys Team were from Two Clubs (The Gurkha Crew Club Baseball and Bhaktapur Rising Stars) and the remaining teams were from (Budhanilkantha School, Mulpi Intl. School, Gyanodaya School, Holy Garden School, Himalayan Adarsha School, British Gorkha School).
Participating Girls Team were from (Budhanilkantha School, Mulpi Intl. School, Gyanodaya School, Holy Garden School, Himalayan Adarsha School, British Gorkha School).

Inaguration:
The tournament was held in the Dasrath Stadium , Tripureshwar with the inaguration from the Honourable Sports Minister Mr. Daljit Shripali.

Tournament Results:
Boys: The Gurkha Crew Club Baseball won the Title, defeating Bhaktapur Rising Star by (1-0).
Girls: Mulpi Intl School won the Title, Defeating Budhanilkantha School by (15-4).

Closing & Prize Distribution:

Chief Guest Vice-President of Nepal Olympic Committee Purendra Bikram Lakhe distributed the trophy and medals to the winner and runner up teams. The Closing Ceremony was held on 18th November, 2016 at Dasrath Stadium, Tripureshwar, Kathmandu.

नेपाल बेसबल र सफ्टवल एसोसिएसनको दोर्श्रो साधारण सभाले १७ सदस्य सहितको नयाँ कार्यसमितिको चयन गरेको छ । नवगठित समितिमा अध्यक्ष अशित एसजेबि राना, उपाध्यक्षमा बिमल कुमार भट्टराई र प्रदिपकुमार खत्री चयन भएका छन् । त्यस्तै एसोसिएसनको महासचिवमा दिपक न्यौपाने, सचिवमा बिपिन बज्राचार्य चयन भए । कोशाध्यक्षमा पद्ममनभ पौड्याल रहेका छन् ।

Pulchowk Baseball & Softball Inaguration

We’re really excited to see the engineering students gathering for the Interactions with Nepal Baseball and Softball Association. The enthusiasm in engineering students made us proud and has motivated us for the development of this sport in the country.
We would like to thank Er Suraj Gautam from Pulchowk Campus, for all the hard work and initiation made for the establishment of Pulchowk Baseball and Softball Club. We look forward to see good athleticism and development of players from this club who could take part in the serious games and competition.
